Where to Start

Beginners are often overwhelmed by the amount of input choices. Since novice users don't have experience with the input of Japanese under Linux or UNIX, it is difficult to decide which programs to install. Some people install all the programs and try them out. This is not feasible for many people with tight disk space and it is also time consuming. uum, mule, and kinput2 all have different keystroke commands. Learning each of the input methods will take more than a day to gain basic familiarity. For this reason, I recommend getting proficient with one input method and trying to improve your typing speed.
