Installation

Configuration of Japanese support under Linux can begin either with the source code of a program or with pre-compiled binaries. The binaries for Linux can often be found in one of the many Japanese distributions for Linux. Some of the projects to provide Japanese support for Linux are JE, PJE, Debian-JP, and Japanese RPM. PJE and Debian JP are the strongest with the most support.

This section reviews the different installation methods and covers basic installation of Japanese capability to the point where the Linux user can display Japanese text.
