Comparison of edict.el and trans/trans.el

I first started using trans.el and trans because I could not get edict.el to work. However, after I installed edict.el I decided to make it my main dictionary system within mule.

Speed

trans and trans.el are slower than edict.el even without the lisp byte compilation of edict.el. trans.el calls the trans program which is written in Perl. This means that the trans program must first load the Perl program then load the entire edict dictionary into ram.

Reliability

I've had several problems with tran and trans.el loading properly on the first attempt.

Accuracy of Searches

As can be seen in the example screen below, edict.el gives words that are part of other words. This gives a more accurate meaning of the word if the user scans the possible combinations and gets the correct meaning from the context of the document.
